In August of last year, Zimmer, Inc. took the Zimmer Durom cup off the market for a week in order to update their surgical technique handbook and retrain surgeons who to implant the Durom properly. Zimmer claimed that it had been surgical technique that lead to widespread failures of the cup. We have reviewed the updated surgical technique handbook and created a table showing passages added to the updated version and passages removed from the previous version.
The updated handbook includes additional information in areas such as implant sizing, patient selection and contraindications, as well as significant updates to the techniques used in reaming, use of the trial implant, and acetabular implantation. The updated handbook also indicates additonal resources for surgical training on their website.
